It is very common for someone that owns a farm or a ranch to own several horses for both personal use and to assist in the daily operations of the ranch or farm. People and organizations running fairs or other large outdoor events for charity or other reasons may contact a breeder of horses and other equines to see if they can rent the animals for rides or for show at their events. Horses for racing and equestrian shows are also commonly bought from dealers of horses and other equines, and there are usually dealers that specialize solely in horses that are bred specifically for those purposes.

Instead, these people board their horses at stables where they can get a lease. Many of these stables not only give the horses a place to live; they also have training, grooming, racing, and roping services. If you are interested in horse sales or trades, then you might also consider contacting a stable; many of them have sales services for different breeds and dressage. When you first contact the stables, you should ask them how long they have been in the horse and pony industry. If they have several years of experience, then they probably know quite a bit about feral and domestic breeds of foals, mares, and stallions. Ask them if they have any open leases. If they do, then you will want to find out what types of services they offer. Get information about their training schedules to see if they can train thoroughbreds to jump, canter, run, and walk properly in shows. Grooming is also essential, especially if you do not have time to visit your horse regularly to brush him or her. If they offer the basic services that you need, then ask them what types of sales they have. If they have dressage like saddles and reins, then you should get a price quote so you can compare them to other boarding farms in the area.
